Welcome to Cúirt

cuirt 2011In a time when we have struggled with our identity as a nation, we try now for the new. It is perhaps fitting then that Cúirt is very new this year. Many of our guest authors have never been to Cúirt before. Some are even coming with debut collections or novels. I am delighted to be hosting them in Galway when they are just emerging onto the world stage.

This year, we also celebrate a lot of Irish writers; our bread and butter, great minds who have been recognised nationally and internationally for their literary talent. We have also expanded beyond the city limits this year and are hosting events in the county. This is an endeavour which has happened with the kind support of our funding partners.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to them for allowing us the opportunity to reach new audiences and begin new relationships. We would like to sincerely thank our patrons, sponsors and partners for their continuing support of Cúirt, it has really made a difference this year.

To our dedicated audience and regular attendees I would like to say thank you for your enthusiasm and for your warmth. You are the reason the writers come and I hope that you enjoy the festival this year: we enter a new era, I look forward to sharing it with you.
